Ghost Machine Comics commemorated its first anniversary by attending New York Comic Con in mid-September. The company first launched at this same event last year and includes a one-of-a-kind creator-owned entity. The owners are leaders in the industry including Brad Anderson, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Geoff Johns, Rob Leigh, Lamont Magee, Francis Manapul, Brad Meltzer, Ivan Reis, Peter Snejbjerg, Peter J. Tomasi, and Maytal Zchut. These comic geniuses have won numerous awards for works including top comic icons like Batman, Superman, The Flash, Spiderman, and innumerable others.
From Start-up to Industry Leader:
The team at Ghost Machine Comics is responsible for bringing to life many new titles. They have been receiving acknowledgments for their work and selling out some of the top titles. This is quite an accomplishment for a new company, even one that boasts such a talented line-up.
Some of their top success stories include:
- GEIGER: This comic was created by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson; this was their first creator-owned comic introduced under the team’s new company. The stories focus on Geiger, a mysterious character living after a nuclear war.
- REDCOAT: This was another sell-out for the company. The story revolves around an immortal British redcoat.
- ROOK: EXODUS: The latest issue was released in April 2024 and is the fourth comic book focused on the experiences of the book’s key character Rook as he adapts to a changing world and landscape.
Next month, in October, the company is looking to release its latest entrée into the horror universe with the launch of HYDE STREET. In November the company will introduce THE ROCKETFELLERS, a family that can travel through time together. Like all their titles, it will be published through Image Comics.
A dysfunctional but fun family from the future hides out in the past against a threat that can travel through time!
Shaking Up the Comic Book Industry:
The team didn’t know what to expect when they introduced their new venture in 2023. It was a new type of venture since the writers and artists who joined to create Ghost Machine jointly own, operate, and reap the financial benefits of the work they produce, according to the New York Times. Instead of handing off their work to other management companies they wanted to reshape the industry by helping other artists and writers gain ownership of their works.
All creators will only work under the Ghost Machine brand and look to add other writers, lettering experts, and illustrators to their company after certain commitments to publishers are fulfilled.
The launch of Ghost Machine may open the door for other creators who want to be more in control of their content and reap the financial benefits of their creativity and hard work. One thing for certain, there is a lot more to come from Ghost Machine and we look forward to each title as it is released.
